A propos de cet article

Signed and Inscribed by Author. Octavo, red leatherette, (hardcover), gilt letters, ii, 144 pp. Near-Fine, with small former-owner signature, in a Fine, mylar protected dust jacket. "American independence arrived half a century late to Florida. But the blood of founding patriots ran strong in the veins of pioneers who moved into the new territory when it opened up just as our nation approached its 50th anniversary. Thomas Jefferson's grandson was Tallahassee's first reform mayor. Alexander Hamilton, Jr., ran for delegate to Congress in territorial Florida's first full-term election, but lost. A grandson of Patrick Henry is buried at Quincy. George Washington's great-grandniece came and married Napoleon Bonaparte's nephew in the Florida capital's eighth wedding. The name of Tallahassee is said to have been chosen for the new Florida capital by the grand-niece of a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Her father, George Walton, Jr., was the first Florida Secretary of State. Title abstracts to most property in the whole northeast qudrant of modern Tallahassee go back to ownership by the Marquis de LAfayette, who late in life was given a block six miles square for his services as a young man in the American revolution." Florida , Florida History, Floridiana, Americana, American History, United States History.…
