The notice arrives by courier, in a plain envelope with no postage and a single date inside: October 24, 2029. On that day, everyone on Earth will leave. Nobody knows where they are going, and nobody seems to care. They just sign the form.
Meo Utherns doesn't sign. He's twenty-four, a struggling freelance designer with half a degree, a drawer full of unfinished projects, and a lifelong habit of starting everything the night before it's due. His sister begs him to come. His mother sets the good china for one last dinner. But staring at the expiration date on his debit card, Meo sees what nobody else does. The world won't end when the people leave. It will end in the months after, one lapsed certificate, unrenewed license, and seized bearing at a time, as the machines humanity left behind slowly fail.
So for the first time in his life, Meo starts early. With a homebuilt AI named Linus, a crew of miners who'd rather dig than wait, and a retired power-grid architect who knows where the passwords live, he carves a refuge into the granite of the Cascades. He fills it with seed vaults, a chip fab, surgical robots, and the mother tools, the machines that make every other machine. Then he lies down in a cold-sleep pod and wakes, again and again, into a future that keeps getting stranger.
Ten years. A thousand. A million. Cities become forests, Linus becomes something Meo can barely recognize, and the Sun starts to swell. The last living human on Earth has to decide what he is willing to become, and how far he will go, to finish the one job he never put off.
The Renewal Dates is a deep-time odyssey that runs from a cluttered Seattle apartment to the edge of a black hole and the first light of the universe. It's funny, tender, and staggering in scale, a story about deadlines, maintenance, and the strange, stubborn love it takes to keep the lights on after everyone else has gone.

À propos de l’auteur
A strategy-focused author under the Ignite imprint, exploring competitive dynamics and the 'Game of Win'.
"I have always believed that the most profound truths are found in the margins of old maps and the quiet corners of forgotten libraries. My work is an attempt to bridge the gap between the rigorous observation of the past and the wandering curiosity of the soul. Whether I am tracing the lineage of a thought or the path of a silk-road traveler, my goal remains the same: to find the pulse of humanity within the archives."
Barnaby Finch is a historian, essayist, and chronicler of the obscure. A lifelong collector of antique globes and out-of-print travelogues, Finch has spent the better part of two decades traversing the intersections of cultural anthropology and narrative non-fiction.
Known for his meticulous research and "lyrical realism," Barnaby's writing often focuses on:
The Philosophy of Place: How geography shapes the human psyche.
Archival Mysteries: Uncovering the personal stories hidden behind historical data.
The Art of Observation: A return to slow, intentional living in a digital age.
When he isn't at his desk in London or scouring a flea market in Marrakech for 19th-century journals, Barnaby can be found in his home library, usually with a cooling cup of espresso and a fountain pen in hand. His work serves as a reminder that while the world has been mapped, it has not yet been fully discovered.

Description de la boutique
**Please note our transit times are from the date of dispatch.** We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first purchase with us, or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book. We are a company who put our customers at the centre of everything we do as we understand the importance of reading because once you learn to read, you will forever be free. There are a whole lot of things in this world of ours that we are yet to explore, which is why we will forever inspire curious minds.…
