It seems to be peculiarly fitting that a translation into English of Jullien sL ife of Richard Wagner should come to publication in the United States. Nothing pleased Wagner more than the knowledge that his works were becoming well known in this country. His interest in America led him to turn his thoughts in this direction as a possible refuge in the period of his life when adversity followed him like a shadow.
