This book, the result of rigorous legal research by Luane Flores Chuquel and Diogo Ricardo Martins Balestra, delves into the dark scenario of the Brazilian military regime (1964-1985) to investigate the brutal violations of human rights and the corrosion of fundamental guarantees. Using a deductive and monographic method, the authors analyse the historical journey from 1961 to re-democratization, examining the role of the National Truth Commission in the face of disrespect for individual and collective protection standards. The book articulates the essential Justice-Memory-Truth triad, arguing that recovering historical records is the only way to raise awareness among present and future generations. By tackling the legacy of the regime of exception, this scientific research demonstrates that the right to memory and truth is a sine qua non condition for the realization of justice and for ensuring that the atrocities of the past are never repeated. It is essential reading for understanding Brazilian democracy and safeguarding human rights.
