A propos de cet article

Description :

Title page states "Houghton Mifflin Company 1921," but that's misleading. Preceding page notes: "First reprinted 1933 . . . Seventh impression 1948 / With an additional note by the Author." So this is in fact a London School of Economics 1940s reprint, "Printed by the Replika process in Great Britain by Lund Humphries / London * Bradford." Gilt titles to spine and front board faded but still legible -- NO jacket. Board corners warped open about 3/8th-inch (1 cm.) PON "Walker Technical College, Hartshill, Oakengates, Shropshire" stamped to blank FFE. "This work was first published in 1921, as number xxxi in Messrs. Hart, Schaffner & Marx' series of prize essays on economics," the current publishers note. "In recent years it has been out of print. . . ." Includes a 36-page author's "Preface to the Re-issue" and an additional 15-page "Preface for the Reprint of 1948." Considerable discussion of time preference. We will not ship this book to France. 381 pp. including index. Reduced from $475. As with all our items priced higher than $90, this item will be shipped "signature required.". Hardcover. Etat : Good. No Jacket. 2nd Edition. Title page states "Houghton Mifflin Company 1921," but that's misleading. Preceding page notes: "First reprinted 1933 . . . Fifth impression 1940." "This work was first published in 1921, as number xxxi in Messrs. Hart, Schaffner & Marx' series of prize essays on economics," the current publishers note. "In recent years it has been out of print. . . ." Bookplate of the Savery Library, Talladega College to front pastedown, with date due slip and library card in holder at rear, indicating this copy was borrowed three times between 1960 and 1981. NO jacket. Includes the author's 26-page "Preface to the Re-Issue" (dated August, 1933), followed by a three-page "Additional Note for Reprint of 1940," dated Chicago June, 1940, in which the author explains "The theory of profit developed in my book, 'Risk, Uncertainty and Profit,' rests upon the general view of the entrepreneur or business manager as buying productive services 'now' and selling the product in the future. The theory needs to be entirely re-worked. Profit must be computed with respect to some defined interval of time, an accounting period, which may be long or short. It is the difference between receipts and disbursements during such a period (or between the credits and charges to any account), plus or minus the change in the aggregate value of the assets of the enterprise, or department or venture, during the period. The main point for emphasis is that the items on the two sides of the balance sheet all belong to the same interval. . . . The CRUCIAL element is the change in asset values. . . ." Originally made and printed by the Replika process in Great Britain by Percy Lund, Humphries & Co. Ltd. / 12 Bedford Square, London W.C.I / and at Bradford. Considerable discussion of time preference. 381 pp. including index. Reduced from $420. N° de réf. du vendeur 012268
