This stunning book is based on a project undertaken by renowned nature photographer Robert Glenn Ketchum to support freshwater habitat conservation in Alaska's Bristol Bay watershed. An ardent proponent of environmental issues, Ketchum, uses the power of photography to convey the urgency of protecting nature. In recent decades the region's freshwater fishery has risen to considerable prominence, attracting fisherman from all over the world to visit these Alaskan rivers. Ketchum's vibrant landscape images of this vast area serve to broaden the understanding of the complex issues at stake and strengthen concerns for conservation management in the region. The Bristol Bay watershed may be Alaska's best opportunity for long-term, region-wide cooperative conservation.

Robert Glenn Ketchum is curator of photography for the National Park Foundation and is on the Board of Councilors of the American Land Conservancy. He has received the United Nations Outstanding Environmental Achievement Award, as well as the Sierra Club's Ansel Adams award for Conservation Photography.
