Cave was a frequent visitor to Ceylon (Sri Lanka) and was a noted photographer and archaeologist, this book is his study to the ancient cities of Ceylon that at the time of his visits lay in partial ruins. Includes 65*b/w plates and 1*map. 166, 6pp. Quarter-bound in black calf with green cloth to remainder. Gilt vignette of palace(?) to upper board and gilt lettering to spine. Corners lightly bumped. Upper edges of boards and upper corners rubbed. Splits to surface of upper joint. Cloth of rear board has been water affected, this has not penetrated into the book but is unsightly. Text-block and pages remain sound. Gift inscription dated 1905 to second free endpaper, pastedowns and first free endpapers marbled. N° de réf. du vendeur C50041
