8vo. 6 x 9.25 inches. lxviii + 242 pp. Bound in original calf with decorated gilt borders; spine rebacked, in compartments with raised bands decorated gilt with contrasting maroon title label. Marbled endpapers. Some wear to boards, page edge tear neatly repaired and occasional light foxing; otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by 6 engraved plates, including portrait frontispiece and engraved title with vignette. The first full edition of The Seasons by the Scottish poet, James Thomson (1700-48) was published in 1730. The additional material appeared in the editions of 1762 with the Life by Patrick Murdoch (d.1774) and 1778 onwards, with the Essay by John Aiken (1747-1822), which was also published separately. Founded by Patrick Marrin's father George in 1946, Marrin's Bookshop has been based in its current Folkestone location since 1963. Patrick has worked in bookselling since 1970. As well as rare antiquarian books, maps and prints, the stock includes a wide range of literature, library sets, travel, history and illustrated books in all fields.
