A propos de cet article

SUBWAY ART is still known as 'the bible' of graffiti. Stunning photographs of this ephemeral art is accompanied by coverage of the culture around graffiti, how to do it [photo 4], the lingo used, and the artists that produced it. Most of the original artists (Fab Five Freddy, Dondi, Lady Pink, etc) and tagging crews (OTB, CIA, the Vamp Squad, etc) are introduced here. This book came out just after the release of WILD STYLE, a documentary/painting class/hip-hop art movie, with many of these artists appearing [photo 3]. The drawings, AKA tags, were often removed by the next day, leaving photographs as the only record of these artistic efforts. The authors of this book would print the images quickly to share with the graffiti artists, who did not have cameras in that decade to record the mark they left on their city, on a subway car. SUBWAY ART quickly acquired the dubious accolade of becoming one of the most stolen books in the United Kingdom, marking the start of graffiti on London rail cars. Several anniversary editions have been published, including a folio-sized edition. This is the 1986 reprint of the 1984 UK original pressing. CONDITION: Very Good+. Spine glue is failing, though not beyond repair. Otherwise interior is in fine/near new condition. Images are crisp and clear. Soft cover, 104 pp. profusely illustrated in full color, on heavy semi-gloss bond paper. 1986 reprint of 1984 UK original press; the only difference from the original 1984 printing is the addition of a UPC symbol on the back cover.…
