A propos de cet article

An pleasing Shrewsbury printing of Oliver Mathews"s 1616 chronicle of Salop, regarded as the earliest history of the town, in a smart quarter calf binding by Delrue. In a smart later quarter calf binding with marbled paper boards, bound by Delrue, with the original wraps bound in. The 1877 Shrewsbury reprint of Mathews"s 1616 antiquarian text, reproduced from the transcription first printed by Thomas Hearne in 1722. Oliver Mathews (c.1520-c.1618) was a Welsh apothecary, burgess of Shrewsbury and chronicler. Printed on the recto only throughout, with versos blank. An appealing local-history edition of one of the earliest accounts of Shrewsbury. In a later quarter calf binding with marbled paper boards, bound by Delrue, with the original wraps bound in.Externally, lovely. Very slight shelf wear to extremities. Light soiling and scattered spotting original paper wraps. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean. Light scattered spotting to first and last few leaves and fore edge with one or two minor handling marks. Printed to the recto only. Leaves frequently remain partially uncut to the fore edge. Very Good Indeed.…
