A deluxe facsimile edition presenting the official proceedings of the famous Scopes trial in 1925 in Dayton, Tennessee. Defying state law prohibiting the teaching of evolution, teacher John T. Scopes did tell his students about evolution, and was prosecuted for violating the law. The case become a national cause cà là bre and drew notable attorneys to the town such as Clarence Darrow and William Jennings Bryant to argue on either side. This facsimile of the original 1925 National Book Company edition is an entry in the Notable Trials Library series. Includes an introduction by series chairman Alan M. Dershowitz, with black & white photos showing people and scenes described in the book. --- In green cloth backed in green bonded leather, with fancy decorations in gilt to covers & spine, titling in gilt to spine, with four raised spine bands and sewn-in satin ribbon placemarker. AEG (all edges gilt), with attractive faux marbled endpapers. --- Overall, this book in Near Fine condition, though with prior owner's bookplate affixed to front flyleaf and a tiny blemish to top edge of rear cover.
