A propos de cet article

The Scribner Radio Music Library Volume VIII – Favorite Songs of Every Character (Vocal) Edited by Albert E. Wier Charles Scribner’s Sons, New York Copyright 1931, 1946 Printing Printed in the United States of America Step into the golden age of American broadcasting and parlor music with this beautifully preserved volume from The Scribner Radio Music Library, one of the most respected and widely used music reference series of the early 20th century. This is Volume VIII – “Favorite Songs of Every Character – Vocal”, a carefully curated anthology created during the height of radio’s influence in American culture. Designed for professional broadcasting, vocalists, pianists, and serious music enthusiasts, these volumes were staples in studios, homes, and conservatories alike. Bound in rich red cloth with elegant gold stamping and the iconic microphone emblem on the front cover, this book captures the craftsmanship and aesthetic of mid-century publishing. It displays beautifully on a shelf and represents a tangible piece of broadcasting and musical history. Why This Volume Is Collectible • Part of the historic Scribner Radio Music Library series • Published by Charles Scribner’s Sons – a premier American publisher • Edited by noted music historian Albert E. Wier • Includes classical, patriotic, home songs, Southern songs, light opera, and traditional standards • Features composers such as Bach, Handel, Foster, Sullivan, and many more • A true working anthology from the radio era Complete volumes from this series are becoming increasingly difficult to find in this condition, especially with strong bindings and clean interiors. This is not a casual songbook — it is a professionally curated music library volume created for high-quality performance and broadcasting. ✔ Part of the Scribner Radio Music Library series ✔ Documents the intersection of classical music and early radio broadcasting ✔ Features enduring works by historically significant composers ✔ Produced by one of America’s most respected publishers ✔ Increasingly scarce in clean hardcover condition 🎯 Ideal For: Classical pianists & music students Music historians & educators Collectors of vintage music books Radio & broadcasting history enthusiasts Display or reference in a serious music library 📕 Physical Description Original red cloth hardcover with gilt titling and microphone emblem Solid binding with a clean, classic presentation Printed in the United States Copyright: 1931, renewed 1946 by Charles Scribner’s Sons 📚 Condition (Very Strong for Age) This book is in very nice vintage condition, especially considering its age: Covers: Clean and solid red cloth boards Light, even handling wear only No stains, very light scuffing, very light discoloration in certain areas of the cover, no structural damage Gilt lettering and microphone emblem remain bright and clear Please note - The primary flaw is on the inside rear cover, where there is visible wear/damage (see last 2 photos). Interior pages are otherwise clean and highly readable, with light age toning throughout. Spine: Tight and straight Title and volume number are fully legible No cracking or looseness Corners & Spine: Corners remain firm and well-shaped with only light, expected softening at the tips. Spine edges show minor surface rubbing and slight softness consistent with age, but there is no fraying, cracking, or splitting. The spine is solid, straight, and fully intact, with bright, legible gilt. Pages: All pages intact and firmly bound The page edges show natural age darkening and a few small spots, consistent with a well-stored vintage book rather than damage. Endpapers exhibit mild discoloration near the edges, again typical for the era and not intrusive. Condition summary: Very Good vintage condition with honest age wear; structurally sound, clean, and visually impressive for its era. Overall, this is a well-preserved, clean example that displays beautifully in anyone's library.…
