Item description from seller

Hardcover. Experience the great works of Samuel Taylor Coleridge through this collection selected by the great folklorist Andrew Lang, who writes of the poet in his introduction, ".in some unutterable way he transports us into the world of dream and desire." In these gilt-edged pages, further immortalized in 18 plate illustrations by Patten Wilson (1869 - 1934) and in the original binding designed by the artist, you'll find "Christabel" and "Kubla Khan," "Songs of the Pixies" and "This Lime-tree Bower my Prison," and many more, including, of course, his haunting classic, "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner," who continues to call across the centuries: "And till my ghastly tale is told, / This heart within me burns." 7 1/2" X 5". xliii, 244pp, [ii]. Decorative publisher's cloth binding designed by Patten Wilson, with his monogram to upper board: P with two crossed Vs to form a W, within a heart. Bound in light heather gray cloth over boards, with Art Nouveau design featuring a ship, trees, birds, hearts, and flowers to upper board in black, lettered in kind, with heart-shaped vines to spine, lettered in gilt, and faded ship vignette to rear. Moderate wear to binding, with bumping to corners and head and tail of spine, small tears to head of spine, scattered rubbing, heaviest at ship vignette to rear, and sunning to spine. All edges gilt. Front hinge a touch tender; binding remains sound. Black coated endpapers. Gift inscription to verso of frontispiece: "Alexandra, in remembrance of her 21st birthday from Agnes." Pages musty and foxed throughout, else unmarked. Illustrated in 18 plates by Patten Wilson, along with decorative initials for every poem.

Description de la boutique

Underground Books, ABAA is an online rare and antiquarian bookshop, founded in 2011 as a brick and mortar general bookstore of the same name in downtown Carrollton, Georgia, which is now operated by out former store manager as The Underground Bookshop. Co-owners Josh Niesse and Megan Bell met in 2011, just 10 days or so after Josh opened the doors of Underground Books, literally underground, several steps below street level in a 100-year-old basement in our historic downtown. Megan, an English student at the University of West Georgia, walked in, fell down the rabbit hole, and never left! Reader, we married in May of 2014, under the book arch that now resides at the bookshop. We are both proud alumni of the Colorado Antiquarian Book Seminar (CABS), and Megan additionally of Rare Book School at the University of Virginia and of the ABAA Women’s Initiative Mentorship Program. Like many booksellers with open brick-and-mortar stores, we are passionate generalists, but our specialties are in decorative publisher's cloth bindings; fairy tales, folklore, and mythology; popular science and natural history; the occult; and fine press books.
