John Casey (1820-1891, was an Irish mathematician, most famous for Casey's theorem on a circle that is tangent to four other circles, an extension of Ptolemy's theorem. However, he contributed several novel proofs and perspectives on Euclidean geometry. He and Émile Lemoine are considered to be the co-founders of the modern geometry of the circle and the triangle. In this work he has endeavoured to collect and arrange all those Elementary Geometrical Propositions not given in Euclid which a student will require in his mathematics course. The book is bound in the original green cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine and a blind-stamped emblem on the front board. The case of the book is in good condition with noticeable shelf wear and some soiling on the boards. The corners and spine ends are bumped with a little damage to the cloth at the bottom of the spine and the spine is cocked with wear to the cloth on the spine edges. The contents are tight and clean apart from a few small marks and stains and occasional pencil 'tick' marks on the margin of some of the first thirty or so pages. The leaf containing pages xv and xvi protrudes slightly from the fore edge of the text block and the fore edge has small nicks. The rear free endpaper has been removed.
