Item description from seller

Servant, Dominican Nun, and Young Lady in Traditional Italian Dress This harmonious trio of hand-colored costume prints presents three women from different walks of life in late medieval or early Renaissance Italy. Captured with grace and fine detail, each figure provides a window into the social expectations, dress, and character associated with their respective roles?servitude, religious devotion, and youthful elegance. Plate No.65 portrays a *Servante* (Servant), dressed in a vivid green robe with a white scarf tied modestly around her head. She carries a jug and goblet in each hand, symbolizing domestic duties likely tied to serving within an upper-class household. Her attire, while simple, is thoughtfully cut and conveys dignity in labor. The gentle tilt of her head and soft expression lend charm to what might otherwise be a purely utilitarian portrayal, making her relatable and human in a way that elevates this image above a mere occupational sketch. Plate No.66 represents a *DominiQuaine* (Dominican Nun), wrapped in the characteristic black-and-white habit of the Dominican order. Her posture is one of piety, with hands gently clasped and eyes downcast in silent prayer or reflection. The print captures the austerity and spiritual grace of monastic life. The unadorned yet balanced composition of the garment, along with the figure's tranquil demeanor, reflects the values of humility, discipline, and inner devotion central to Dominican spirituality. Plate No.69 (notably misnumbered or misordered in the series) features a *Jeune Fille* (Young Girl), striking in a vibrant rose-pink gown with gold and olive detailing. Her dress is adorned with a finely patterned sash and what appears to be a small decorated box or portable harp-like object, suggesting either a musical or decorative accessory. Her expression is playful and engaging, her head slightly tilted and crowned with a floral circlet or braided headpiece. The image exudes youthful grace and budding individuality, making it an ideal companion to the other more role-defined figures. Together, these prints explore a gentle but powerful contrast between service, spiritual life, and blossoming femininity. The vivid colors and stylistic precision offer historical insight into female roles, while also making an aesthetically pleasing and collectible set. Condition: The prints are in good antique condition. Slight age-related spotting is visible, particularly near the outer margins of the third plate. Color remains fresh and hand coloring is well-preserved without smudging or fading. Framing Tips: Present this set with equal spacing in a horizontal arrangement. Choose a light cream mat to complement the delicate palette. For frames, consider something understated?matte black, walnut, or natural wood?to allow the prints to remain the focal point. UV-protective glazing is recommended, and float mounting will highlight the plate impressions and preserve the authenticity of the set.
