A propos de cet article

Two items offered together: (1) IDENTITY CARD: Green leatherette gilt-titled with Saudi emblem 8.1x11.2cm. 20, (1)pp with Yamani's laminated b/w photo, printed and ms text and forms in Arabic, official ink stamps and signatures. Very good or better, creased along spine edge. Ahmed Zaki Yamani (1930-2021), born in Mecca to a prominent Islamic scholar, was at this time the Saudi Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (1962-86). As indicated on the photo page, this was issued in Taif on 19 Jumada al-Ula 1405 (9 Feb 1985) to replace a damaged one originally issued in Mecca on 2 Rabi al-Thani 1391 (26 May 1971). His Personal details include father's name, his name, place and date of birth (p2). He is described as having a brown face, black eyes, no distinguishing marks, educated, married, occupation Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, residing in Riyadh (p3). The Statement of Family Members lists 7 individuals with kinship, place and date of birth, including his two wives (Laila Suleiman Faidi, b Basra; Tammam al Anba, b Riyadh), and 5 children from his second wife (Faisal, Geneva 1976; Sharaf, Geneva 1977; Sara, Geneva 1979; Arwa, Riyadh 1981; Ahmed, Geneva 1983) (pp4-9). The three children from his first wife (Mai, Maha and Hani) are not recorded. General Explanations record the reason for reissue (pp13-20). The final page lists various rules. (2) FAX: A4 letter 4pp with Red Crescent Society for Gaza Strip letterhead, dated and sent 9 Feb 2004. Yamani was then based in Switzerland, running his London-based Centre for Global Energy Studies and Al-Furqan Islamic Heritage Foundation. This is addressed to him from Society President Dr Haider Abdul Shafi conveying the Directors' best wishes, and forwarding a letter from the Union of Health Work Committees (UHWC). The UHWC headed letter dated 9 Feb 2004 thanks Yamani for donating US$100,000 towards supporting thousands of children in Rafah via its Rachel Corrie Cultural Centre for Children and Adolescents, attaching the receipt and Arab Bank Gaza Branch cheque for $99,964. Haider Shafi (Gaza 1919 - Gaza 2007) founded the Red Crescent Society for Gaza Strip in 1969. He led the Palestinian delegation to the Madrid Conference in 1991, but broke with the negotiating team predicting the Oslo process would fail over the issue of settlements. In 2002 he co-founded the Palestinian National Initiative with Edward Said, Mustafa Barghouti and Ibrahim Dakkak to link liberation and the return of refugees with unity, democracy and social justice. During the Second Intifada his Society launched a relief fund naming Yamani as a donor. UHWC was formed in 1985 to provide health services to Palestinians in need. In 2003 it named its new child and youth cultural centre in Rafah Refugee Camp after Rachel Corrie (1979-2003), shortly after her death there whilst trying to stop IDF bulldozers demolishing Palestinian homes. Yamani's donation at the height of the Second Intifada thus came at a critical stage in its work.…
