A mass-market paperback edition of The Silver Chair, book six in the classic fantasy series The Chronicles of Narnia, featuring cover art by Cliff Nielsen and black-and-white interior artwork by the original illustrator of the series, Pauline Baynes.
Through dangers untold and caverns deep and dark, a noble band of friends is sent to rescue a prince held captive. But their mission to Underland brings them face-to-face with an evil more beautiful and more deadly than they ever expected.
The Silver Chair is the sixth book in C. S. Lewis's classic fantasy series. For over seventy-five years, it has been drawing readers of all ages into a magical land where giants wreak havoc and enchantment rules. This is a complete stand-alone read, but if you want to discover what happens in the final days of Narnia, read The Last Battle, the seventh and concluding book in The Chronicles of Narnia.
À propos de l'auteur:
Clive Staples Lewis (1898–1963) was one of the intellectual giants of the twentieth century and arguably one of the most influential writers of his day. He was a Fellow and Tutor in English Literature at Oxford University until 1954, when he was unanimously elected to the Chair of Medieval and Renaissance Literature at Cambridge University, a position he held until his retirement. He wrote more than thirty books, allowing him to reach a vast audience, and his works continue to attract thousands of new readers every year. His most distinguished and popular accomplishments include Out of the Silent Planet, The Great Divorce, The Screwtape Letters, and the universally acknowledged classics in The Chronicles of Narnia. To date, the Narnia books have sold over 100 million copies and have been transformed into three major motion pictures.

In the vast realm of children?s literature, a curious tome named The Silver Chair sits precariously between the whimsical and the odd, as if it were a wobbly chair at a rather eccentric tea party. Penned by that stalwart of fantasy, C.S. Lewis, this 1994 HarperCollins edition invites readers into a world that is both enchanting and bewildering, much like your Aunt Mabel?s collection of porcelain frogs that she insists are ?really quite rare? Our heroes, two unsuspecting children, plunge headfirst into the murky waters of Narnia?an alternative universe where the trees seem to whisper secrets and talking animals probably gossip about you behind your back. In this particular outing, they find themselves entangled in a quest that involves a rather silver chair. Yes, you read that correctly?a chair, not a throne, not a sofa, but a chair. One can only speculate about the abundance of mundane furniture in Narnia and the hidden stories they hold, possibly leading to a showdown with a rogue coffee table. As you flip through the pages, expect to encounter a plethora of fantastical beings, each more bizarre than the last. Will you meet a gloomy marshwiggle, a serpent of significance, or perhaps the peculiar inhabitants of a land where the laws of physics are mere suggestions? The plot thickens as our young protagonists embark on a quest to rescue a prince, because, naturally, every fantasy land is obligated to have a missing royal. One can?t help but wonder if Narnia?s economy relies heavily on princes going missing. This particular edition, with its ISBN?0064471098, for those of you who collect such trivialities?offers a striking cover that may or may not have been designed during a particularly vibrant fever dream. One must appreciate the artistic choices made in the 90s, where everything seemed to be an homage to fluorescent colours and a questionable sense of style. Could this book be a portal to nostalgia, or just a reminder of the time your friends insisted on wearing platform shoes? The prose is rife with Lewis?s characteristic wit and wisdom, making you ponder profound questions for a morning or two?like why on earth anyone would sit in a silver chair without first asking how much it weighs. Lewis deftly balances the line between allegory and absurdity, ensuring readers are left with more questions than answers. Prepare for philosophical musings couched within a narrative that may leave you scratching your head and wondering where you left your sanity. Condition: This copy is used, of course?evidence of past adventures written in the margins, a coffee stain that could tell tales if only it could talk, and the faint smell of what might have been a delightful biscuit or a slightly burnt sausage roll. Each dog-eared page bears witness to the love it has received (or endured), making it a perfect companion for those who appreciate the patina of age?or for those who simply enjoy the thrill of chance encounters with well-loved literature. A comprehensive exploration of chairs?and their unexpected importance in fantasy. A nostalgic jaunt back to the 90s, complete with questionable cover art. Pages that may or may not have been turned by someone who enjoyed a good biscuit. A cast of characters that?s as peculiar as your uncle?s collection of novelty ties. Endless philosophical ponderings that might require a mug of tea and a good think. So, if you fancy a trip to a world where the absurd is the norm and fabrics defy logic, then The Silver Chair just might be the quirky companion you didn?t know you needed. Or, at the very least, it will give you something to read while you contemplate the nature of chairs and the universe. Available exclusively at Crappy Old Books, where every title has a story?if only the cover could talk. THIS BOOK BEARS THE CRAPPY OLD BOOKS STAMP. IF THAT IS UNDESIRABLE PLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS. THE STAMP MARKS WHICH IS USUALLY TO THE FRONT AND BACK INNER PAGES SAYS SOLD BY CRAPPY OLD BOOKS WITH WEB SITE URL. IT IN NO WAY DEMINISHED FROM THE READING.
