The premier English tenor, he made his first appearance in oratorio in 1848, and was later professor of singing at the Guildhall School of Music. From the introduction: "The career of Sims Reeves synchronises with the phases and development of musical art in England during the Victorian era. It is impossible to disassociate one from the other, and I have endeavoured to give some idea of the music of a period which, though not very long ago, seems now quite remote. " M45; 315 pages.
