Synopsis :

Simulation, games and role play have been in use in Higher Education as teaching and research tools and methods, for generations. It is, however, less easy to identify places where they are fully accepted as integral to academic teaching routines. The chapters in this book contribute to exploring both ways all three forms are currently being used, and factors influencing their slow uptake. The book aims to inspire educators to engage in play-based learning activities to the benefit of the learning outcomes of their students. It is the editors belief that when play-based learning activities work well whether in the form of games, simulations or role plays they are second to none in engaging students in their learning process. Pedagogy and practice are equally important for improving students learning outcomes. The activities described and commended in this anthology subscribe to this aim in a most fruitful way.
