New York: Stanley Bradley Publishing Co., 1890. Two volume set, published 1890. Reading copy in very worn condition. Also includes a history of the Grand Army of the Republic [GAR] and a history of the Sons of Veterans. Includes hundreds of engravings made from sketches of battles and camp life, celebrating the hard life of Civil War soldiers. Includes many two-page spreads, and most of the engravings are half-page size or larger. Large volumes, 17" x 12", in blue cloth lettered in gilt, marbled edges, 444 + 482 pages plus index to volume II. Covers heavily worn with some spotting, volume I hinges cracked, volume II text block separated from covers, text blocks basically sound, pages age-darkened but clean, numerous short closed tears and chips to margins, page 54/55 of volume one heavily chipped with some loss of text, old insect damage to endpapers of volume II. .
