An informative history of wartime Naval Intelligence, Britain's senior intelligence service, whose officers included Commander Ian Fleming, Admiral John Godfrey, Robert Harling, Ralph Izzard and Sir Peter Smithers. The author Lt-Cdr Beesly worked in 'Room 39' and was a specialist on German merchant raiders and submarine tracking. In December 1945 he was awarded the Legion of Merit.
