A propos de cet article

Hardcover. Leather spine and corners. Marbled paper over boards. Boards attached by single cords only. Corners bumped, boards scuffed, spine chipped and faded. Front endpaper detached but present. First signature detached but present, set in place. 232 pages. Binding tight, pages square. Faded from age with some foxing. Small corner clipped from the top of title page (perhaps removing an old ownership name). Blue bookplate on inside front cover with the name Geo. F. Lee. The identity of Junius remains a mystery, more than 225 years later. He (or she) contributed several letters to the Public Advertiser, which were republished in book form in the early 1770s. This volume is written in dialogue-form, and touches on the same themes as the collected letters, namely: how the British Government under King George has been taking away powers that rightfully belong to the people. Although the theme would seem to lend itself to application by the then-warring American colonies, Junius's concern was primarily for inhabitants of Great Britain, not the colonies. This edition published anonymously. Introductory dedication dated August 15, 1770, from simply "Private Village." Please email with questions or to request photos.…
