Sultan to Sultan. Adventures Among the Masai and Other Tribes of East Africa. By May French-Sheldon and published in London by Saxon and Co. 1892. 435 pp. 9.5” x 7.25”. 8vo. Hardcover full cloht. Overall good, with loss of dust jacket, if issued. Some scuffing, discoloration and water marks to exterior. Some shakiness present on front and rear hinges. Some wear to middle of text block, with last end page additionally mostly detached. Small markings, along with empty prize bookplate affixed to front pastedown. Nicely illustrated throughout, including with numerous black-and-white plates throughout text block. Does not include map. General age-related toning to pages, along with periodic foxing and wear. Please see photographs and ask any questions prior to purchasing. A scarce work on the African travels of May French-Sheldon (1846-1936), an American author and explorer who was one of the first women to be elected to the Royal Geographical Society. She was known for her formal looks, including in the African wilderness, and had special outfits and jewelry on hand to meet chiefs and other important local officials.
