THERE ARE NO TARIFFS OR CUSTOMS DUTIES ON BOOKS. This compact selection of poems by Mary Elliott (1794-1870) includes a number of religious, moral, and sentimental poems, but is notable for the anti-slavery, egalitarian poem "The Negro and Her Master" on pp. 12-13.The book is in the original quarter-leather binding with the title in gilt on the spine, and paper-covered boards that were originally marbled, but are now so frayed at the edges and faded that the marbling is barely distinguishable. The frontispiece and title page are missing, and the book begins with the first poem, 'The Sunflower' on p.4. Internally pages are slightly wrinkled (probably due to damp at some stage) and a good deal. N° de réf. du vendeur 445322
