A propos de cet article

32.5 x 22.5cms, 938pp. Handsome later full black/dark brown morocco, elaborately gilt with dense decorative tooling to boards & spine; raised bands, all edges marbled (gilt); marbled endpapers. Title page present with early & later ownership inscriptions. Preliminary leaves worn & soiled, with edge loss & repairs, front inner hinge weakened. General browning, staining & damp-marking throughout. Text generally complete as far as can be determined. Binding sound but with wear to extremities & some internal splitting at joints. A later (but early) edition of Stow's classic & foundational history of London, first issued in 1598 & here expanded & continued. A genuine 17th-century folio with strong visual presence, housed in an attractive later binding.
