The book has been divided into core themes of Sustainable Transportation Systems, Sustainable Geosystems, Sustainable Environmental and Water Resources and Sustainable Structural Systems. Use of sustainability principles in engineering has become an important component of the process of design and in this context, design and analysis approaches in civil engineering are being reexamined to incorporate the principles of sustainable designs and construction in practice. Developing economies are on the threshold of rapid infrastructure growth and there is a need to compile the developments in various branches of civil engineering and highlight the issues. It is this need that prompted the composition of this book. The contents of this book will be useful to students, professionals, and researchers working on sustainability related problems in civil engineering. The book also provides a perspective on sustainability for practicing civil engineers who are not directly researching the problems but are affected by the concerns in the course of their profession. The book can also serve to highlight to policy makers and governing bodies the need to have a mandate for sustainable infrastructural development.

À propos de l’auteur
G L Sivakumar Babu completed his Ph.D.(Geotechnical Engineering) in 1991 from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India, after earning his Masters Degree (Soil Mechanics Foundation Engg.) in 1987 from Anna University, Madras and B.Tech. (Civil Engineering) in 1983 from Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati. He worked in Central Road Research Institute and International Airports Authority of India New Delhi. He joined Indian Institute of Science in 1997, where his teaching and research activities include courses on Geomechanics, Soil investigations, risk and reliability applications in Civil Engineering, Pavement Engineering, Geosynthetics, and Ground Improvement.
He is Editor-in-Chief of the Indian Geotechnical Journal and is Editorial Board Member of 1) Journal of Hazardous, Toxic, and Radioactive Waste, ASCE, 2) International Journal of Geomechanics, ASCE 3) International Journal of Georisk -Assessment and Management of Risk for Engineered Systems and Geohazards, Taylor & Francis Group, and 4) International journal of systems assurance engineering and management, Springer Publications, 5) International Journal of Geosynthetics and Ground Engineering and Ground Improvement, Journal of Institution of Civil Engineers, UK (during 2006 to 2013). He is the Governor of Region 10, ASCE, Ex-President of ASCE (India Section), a member of Sectoral Innovation Council, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and Highway Research Board (Identification, Monitoring and Research Application) Committee, Indian Roads Congress, New Delhi. He worked as Humboldt Fellow & Visiting Scientist in Germany during June 1999- July 2000 and as Visiting Scholar, Purdue University, Lafayette, USA during 2/95 - 2/96. He is presently the Chairman, International Technical Committee (TC-302) on Forensic Geotechnical Engineering (FGE) of International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE) and served as its secretary during 2005-2009 and 2009-2013. He was a member in International Technical Committee (TC-32) on Risk assessment in Geotechnical Engineering during 1997-2001 and 2001-2005.He is a Fellow of ASCE, Life Member of Indian Roads Congress, Fellow of Institution of Engineers India, Fellow of Indian Geotechnical Society, Fellow of Association of Consulting Engineers (ACCE).
He has guided a number of students for research degrees (Ph.D and M. Sc (Engg.) and wrote a book on soil reinforcement and geosynthetics, edited six books and proceedings and has over 200 publications to his credit in journals and conferences of international repute. He has received several awards for his work such as best PhD thesis in geotechnical Engineering in India from Indian Geotechnical Society, Humboldt fellowship from Germany, DST Boyscast Fellowship, Young Engineer from Central Board of Irrigation and Power, New Delhi and a few awards for best papers from ASCE and Indian Geotechnical Society.Dr. Sireesh Saride is currently Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad. His expertise and research interests are in the area of pavement geotechnics, geosynthetics and ground improvement. He earned his B.Tech (2000) from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, India and his masters integrated with PhD from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India in 2006. He pursued his post-doctoral research at the University of Texas at Arlington. Sireesh's current research focuses on dynamic behavior of geocell reinforced base and subbase layers and improvement of rural roads using secondary/recycled materials. His research sponsorship comes from the Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Road Transportation and Highways, Naively Lignite Corporation Ltd., and other private sector enterprises. Sireesh has published more than 100 referred journal and conference articles and technical reports. He is a currently serving as Associate Editor for the Journal of Ground Improvement (ICE) and Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering, ASCE. He is also a Guest Editor for a special Issue on 'Transporation Geotechnics' of Indian Geotechnical Journal (2015). He is a member of ASCE, ICE and life member of IGS and IRC. He served as a Secretary for ASCE India Section (2012-14). Dr. Sireesh received best paper awards from Indian Geotechnical Society (2004, 2014) and ASCE GeoShanghai Conference (2010). He received young scientist award from DST, Government of India (2012).
Dr. B. Munwar Basha obtained his B.Tech (in Civil Engineering) from JNTU college of Engineering, Anantapur, India in June 2001, M.Tech from IIT Kanpur in 2004 and Ph.D. from IISc Bangalore, India in Aug 2009. He was a post doctoral researcher at IISc Bangalore, India until 2010. He worked in IIT Delhi as Assistant Professor in Civil Engineering Department from 2010 to 2013. Presently, heis Assistant Professor in Civil Engineering Department at Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad, India. He has guided 5 M.Tech and 4 B.Tech projects. He has successfully completed several sponsored research projects. He has more than 54 publications in journals and conferences. He has consulted on more than 10 projects.

Droit statutaire de rétractation
Vous avez le droit d'exercer votre droit de rétractation sur ce contrat dans les 14 jours sans donner de raison.
Le délai de rétractation expirera au bout de 14 jours à compter du jour où vous-même, ou un tiers autre que le transporteur et désigné par vous, prendrez physiquement possession de la dernière marchandise, du dernier lot ou de la dernière pièce.
Pour exercer votre droit de rétractation, remplissez électroniquement et envoyez une déclaration claire sur notre site Web, sous « Vos achats » dans « Votre compte ». Nous vous communiquerons sans délai un accusé de réception de cette rétractation sur un support durable (par exemple, par e-mail).
Pour respecter le délai de rétractation, il vous suffit d'envoyer votre message concernant l'exercice de votre droit de rétractation avant l'expiration du délai de rétractation.
Effets de la rétractation
Si vous exercez votre droit de rétractation sur ce contrat, nous vous rembourserons tous les paiements que vous avez effectués, y compris les frais de livraison (à l'exception des frais supplémentaires résultant du choix d'un mode de livraison autre que le type de livraison standard le moins cher que nous proposons).
Nous pouvons déduire du remboursement la perte de valeur de toute marchandise livrée, si la perte est le résultat d'une manipulation inutile de votre part.

Vous devez renvoyer les marchandises ou les remettre à AHA-BUCH GmbH, Einbeck, Germany, sans retard injustifié et, en tout état de cause, au plus tard 14 jours à compter du jour où vous nous avez communiqué votre décision de rétractation du présent contrat. Le délai est respecté si vous renvoyez les marchandises avant l'expiration du délai de 14 jours. Vous devrez prendre en charge les frais directs du renvoi des marchandises. Vous n'êtes responsable que de toute diminution de valeur des marchandises résultant d'une manipulation autre que celle nécessaire pour établir la nature, les caractéristiques et le fonctionnement des marchandises.
Exceptions au droit de rétractation
Le droit de rétractation ne s'applique pas à ce qui suit :
- Distribution de journaux, de revues ou de magazines, à l'exception des contrats d'abonnement ; et
- Fourniture d'un contenu numérique qui n'est pas fourni sur un support matériel (par exemple, sur un CD ou un DVD) si vous avez accepté, lors de votre commande, que nous puissions commencer à le livrer et que vous ne puissiez pas exercer votre droit de rétractation une fois la livraison commencée.
