A propos de cet article

Third edition - published as a paperback original (PBO). The book was first published in 1969, and reprinted in 1972 and this edition in 1976. ***Near fine in illustrated glossy card covers. The covers are just slightly rubbed at the edges, with some very small marks on the front cover. There is a small scuff on the back cover where a price sticker has been removed. No creases, bumps or tears. Corners sharp. Edges of page block clean. Spine tight. Internally also near fine with no inscriptions or annotations. No creasing or tears. No reading creases to the spine. ***202mm x 144mm. 78 pages. ***Contents: Foreword, Preface, Introduction, Northern Farmer, Old Style, Northern Farmer, New Style, The Northern Cobbler, The Village Wife; or, the Entail, The Spinster's Sweet-Arts, Owd Roa, The Churchwarden and the Curate, Appendix, Bibliography. ***'Tennyson's Lincolnshire poems are unique. Other poets, notably Robert Burns and William Barnes of Dorset, have written beautiful and delightful poems in dialect, but only Tennyson has used dialect in dramatic monologue to recreate the life and character of the countryside in which he spent his youth. The mid-Lincolnshire speech of the early nineteenth century was singularly rich and vivid, as were the personalities of the farmers and rustics who used it. Tennyson was a connoisseur of language and character and he made the most of his opportunities. [Quote taken from the Foreword by Charles Tennyson] ***An indispensable copy of a work of great value to those who are interested in the Lincolnshire dialect poems of Alfred Lord Tennyson. An uncommon book. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.***.…
