Item description from seller

Text/NEW, w/faint discoloration. Softcover/Fine. Renowned comedy from William Shakespeare (1564 - 1616 ), written cerca 1601. Story of love, mistaken identities, & human relations. Tale of twins Viola & Sebastian. Separated by shipwreck, each thought the other had drowned. Viola adopts the name Cesario, employed by Duke Orsino, becomes the intermediary for the Duke’s courtship of Countess Olivia, precipitates a complex series of comedic misunderstandings & romantic entanglements. The Duke, is in love with Olivia, but she, mourning for her dead brother, does not respond. He has Cesario deliver his love letters to Olivia, but to have Olivia enchanted instead w/Cesario. Meanwhile Viola, in the guise of Cesario, has fallen in love w/ the Duke, and he is confused by his attraction to his new ‘male’ servant --- So it is, Viola loves Orsino, Orsino loves Olivia , and Olivia is attracted to Cesario. Then, there is Olivia’s butler, Malvolio. who distains all household members --- drunken uncle Sir Toby Belch & the household staff. Knowing Malvolio adores Olivia, they trick him into believing his feelings for their mistress is reciprocated! They forge a letter to Malvolio from Olivia, saying she loves him, and needs him to wear yellow stockings & smile constantly. Malvolio does so; Olivia, thinking he has gone mad, has him locked up! Then, Viola’s lost twin Sabastian shows up w/ Antonio, who rescued him! Sebastian and Olivia meet --- she, mistakens him for Cesario, proposes, and, he accepts!! Is there another romantic comedy that so engagingly explores fluid gender roles and beset with such unpredictability in human behavior.
