Item description from seller

One of 1000 copies printed by John Henry Nash. Original publisher's medium blue paper-covered boards backed with white vellum in original dark blue paper dust jacket. Gilt lettering on front cover and book spine. Black lettering on front panel and dust jacket spine. 5" x 6 3/4." Thirty-eight pages, complete. One black-and-white printed frontispiece done after a painting, complete. Pages are virtually pristine and intact except for light age toning and slight rippling throughout. Covers are very clean and intact except light fading and faint marks to the boards. Binding is tight. Dust jacket is clean and intact overall but has a closed tear measuring about 1" at lower-right corner of front panel, a few faints spots, and tiny closed tears and chips along edges. A Fine book in a Very Good dust jacket. A reprint of Bret Harte's short story about Tennessee, a gambler, and Tennessee's Partner, his more practical friend, who live in the Old West. This is considered by some to be one of the earliest "buddy" stories in the history of American fiction. First published in the Overland Monthly in 1869. Back colophon: "Here ends No. Three of the Western Classics, being Tennessee's Partner by Bret Harte, the Introduction by William Dallam Armes. The photo-gravure frontispiece by Albertine Randall Wheelan. Of this First Edition one thousand copies have been issued, printed upon Fabriano handmade paper. The typography designed by J. H. Nash. Published by Paul Elder and Company, and done into a book for them at the Tomoye Press, New York City, in the year nineteen hundred and seven.".
