Smart full-morocco edition of this extensive anthology of quotes from eminent authors, both historical and contemporary. Bound in full morocco with marbled endpapers. With a lovely contemporary inscription to the first page, dated July 1874.A wonderful selection of quotations from eminent authors, including the likes of Petrarch, Dante, Shakespeare, Pope, Dickens and Tennyson. Organised alphabetically and featuring lines on a wide range of subjects. Text compiled by Henry Southgate, a prominent Fleet Street artwork auctioneer, who built himself a favourable reputation as an anthologist of literary volumes. Bound in full morocco with marbled endpapers. Externally, generally smart with slight bumping and rubbing, resulting in very minor loss of leather, most noticably to the spine tail. With more moderate marking to both boards. Internally, only marginal weakness to hinges, otherwise firmly bound. Bright and clean with the exception of heavier spotting to the first and last few pages. Good. N° de réf. du vendeur 1006B12
