A propos de cet article

Rolfe, John C. (translator). Gentili, Alberico [1552-1608]. Three Books on the Law of War. (1612 English ed. of De Iure [Jure] Belli Libri Tres). Carnegie Classics of International Law series. Volume 2: English translation of 1612 edition of De Jure Belli Libri Tres. [Translated] by John C. Rolfe. Introduction by Coleman Phillipson. Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1933. Reprint. W.S. Hein, 1995. 52a, vi, 479, [3] pp. Tan buckram hardcover, with black spine lettering. The work is considered one of the earliest systematic treatises on the laws of war. An Italian jurist, Gentili fled Italy in 1579 due to religious persecution because of his Protestant beliefs. He was welcomed in England, where he became a Regius Professor of Civil Law at Oxford University. He is considered a co-founder and "Father of International Law". His work on the laws of war was highly influential, paving the way for later jurists like Hugo Grotius. …
