Item description from seller

The Tiber and Its Tributaries in Ancient and Modern Times Its Inundations Their Causes and The Means That Have Been Proposed For Their Prevention, Strother A. Smith, with a Map and Two Illustrations, Braun & Cie, Geneva, 1871, 121 pages plus appendix, original cloth, 8vo. In good condition. Ex-library. Green cloth in nice condition. Spine damaged at head with segment missing. Previous owner’s book plate on paste down “Butler Place”. Moderate foxing throughout. Gutter is shaken. Unmarked text block. Please see photos. Our book’s provenance stems from Butler Place, which was a farm purchased by Pierce Butler. The estate was home to five generations of the family until its sale in 1916. The house was torn down in the mid-1920’s. Just below these streets the legacy of the estate’s history exist through Fanny Kemble Abolitionist Memorial Park, named for the famed actress who lived at Butler Place. COLH1871ABFA.
