Logistics and transportation are a complex set of entities and systems interconnected by many physical, financial, and information flows, and, as with all systems, there are optimization and planning issues. In addition, they are subject to economic, social, and especially environmental pressures with the need to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. There is a need for original research to address these issues. Jaouad Boukachour is an associate professor of computer sciences at the University of Le Havre Normandie since 1993. He received his PhD in computer science in 1992 from the University of Rouen, and accreditation to supervise researches from the University of Le Havre in 2006 (France). His primary research interests are in scheduling problems, hard optimization, and supply chain and logistics information systems. He has more than 30 refereed research papers. He supervised a number of PhD researchers, acts as a scientific director of various research projects and serves as a peer reviewer for international journals.

Abdelhamid Benaini is a Professor of Computer Sciences at the University of Le Havre Normandie since 2000. He received a PhD in Applied Maths from the INP-Grenoble and a PhD in Computer Sciences from the ENS-Lyon. His current research themes concern the applications of High Performance Computing and Artificial Intelligence in the field of optimization and transport logistics.
