The story of the Califonian missions as a cultural interchange between Roman Catholic Spain and indigenous Native Americans between 1769 and 1835. --- a study of 21 Franciscan missions and their asistencias (satellite units such as presidios and pueblos), dotted either side of a 600-mile trail known as El Camino Real linking Mission San Diego de Alcalá in San Diego in the south to Mission San Francisco Solano in Sonoma in the north.
