Pikkuviulisti Tuomas on vaikeuksissa tulevan kevätkonsertin kanssa. Avuksi löytyy vanha mestari, joka asuu vastapäisessä talossa. Pian heidän viulunsa keskustelevat pihan yli, parvekkeelta toiselle. Kesän päättyessä kokeneen soittajan viulu vaikenee. Lopulta miehen tytär tulee tapaamaan Tuomasta mukanaan kulunut viulukotelo. --- Young violinist Thomas is practicing hard for his music school's spring concert, but one difficult passage just won't cooperate. With the windows open to the warm air, he worries everyone can hear his mistakes-especially the master violinist who lives across the courtyard and plays with breathtaking beauty. Then, one day, something magical happens: the master's violin answers Thomas from the balcony, and it feels as if the two instruments begin to "talk" across the courtyard. As Thomas listens, learns, and plays along, his confidence grows-until the day the old virtuoso's music suddenly falls silent. Thomas keeps playing, carrying their shared music forward, and by summer's end he receives a visitor who changes everything again-along with a gift that will help his music soar.
