Two copies of the same session law books bound within a single volume (i.e. duplicated pagination and same imprint for both). Full title - LAWS OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, PASSED BY THE ELEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY, AT THEIR SPECIAL SESSION, BEGAN AND HELD AT SPRINGFIELD, ON THE NINTH OF DECEMBER, ONE THOUSAND EIGHT HUNDRED AND THIRTY-NINE. PUBLISHED IN PURSUANCE OF LAW. Springfield: William Walters, Public Printer, 1840. Paged as 1-157, [3], i-xxxii | 1-157, [3], i-xxxii. Hardcover: H 21.75cm x L 13.75cm. Rebound in dark olive buckram cloth (1940s/50s?) with addition of new endpapers and flyleaves; surface abrasion to spine cloth with title and volume labels missing with resulting two discolored patches; slender abrasions to cloth at board edges/margins. Text block edges toned/foxed with stains. Bookplate of Lucius Bryan Dabney on front pastedown. Foxing/toning to interior leaves. Binding is firm. Includes: Laws on pages 3-156; "Report of the Auditor of Public Accounts, of the State of Illinois, Transmitted to Both Houses of the General Assembly December 14, 1839." (pages i-xvi); "Report of the Treasurer if the State of Illinois to the General Assembly, December 1839." (pages xvii-xix); concluding "Index to Laws" (pages xxi-xxxii) - these sections respectively duplicated in successively bound second copy. This book was acquired from the estate of Vicksburg, Mississippi attorney Lucius Bryan Dabney Sr., 1893-1967, (with his aforementioned bookplate) whose insightful, ardent, and voluminous accumulation of Mississippi Valley-related books and papers is preserved as the Natchez Trace Collection at the University of Texas at Austin.
