OF VIETNAMESE, YUNNAN & CAMBODIAN LIFE & ALL SUBJECTS . * This superb collection of photo post-cards, some are hand-tinted, color printed, in black & white. Consists of 173 images covering all aspects of Vietnamese people, large coverage of Vietnamese & Annamese women, nudes, beauties, minorities, local people, places, scenery, occupations, rivers, bridges, rice culture, costume, Cambodians, palanquins carrying foreigners, municipal buildings, statues, botanical gardens, wild jungles, fruit & food, musicians, musical instruments, partisans, Frenchmen, coolies, market places, Chinese ghettos, nobles, Mandarins, rich women, bare-busted women, cathedrals, palaces, merchants, opium smoker, children, theater, cities: Hanoi, Saigon, Hue, Tourane, Langson, &c., Baie A'Long, temples, farming, water buffalo, rivers, boats, river life & floating markets, hotels, grand French-built buildings, marriage ceremonies, Muong minorities, Cap St. Jacques, rubber plantations, junks & river navigation and far too many to list. . The album contains a majority of early images, some are clearly by Dieulefilis, and other French photographer from Hanoi & Saigon, The last pages are of the 1950's blue images and finally some in full color. The major focus of the album are native Annamese & Tonkin areas, with special focus on women, their costume, culture, milieu and life style. . *** RARITY: The album contains numerous famous post-cards from the studio of Pierre DIEULEFILIS, several cited in his book, see reference below. . The album contains many other photos from several studios, including: Collection Poujade Ladeveze; Gravures Braun & Cle. Dornach; Edition Rene Teart Hanoi; Collection Wirth, Saigon; Reunis de Nancy; Collection R. Moreau Cle. Hanoi to mention just a few of many. . *** RARITY: A collection of this number and subject are exceptionally rare and seldom found. This was the collection of an unnamed Frenchman who was more than likely an administrator of Vietnam prior to 1954. . *** CONDITION: This is a Japanese-made album, sold by Maruzen. The hinges and corners are with the usual rubbing, but intact, with a couple of scratches or scuffs to the covers. The book contains a large number of pre-punched slots to hold post cards in either vertical or horizontal orientation. Faux red leather. . The cards are of various examples, some with messages on the versos, some mailed with cancelled stamps or stamps missing, some unused, all clean, no damage or defects. . Each card is loosely inserted in the album pages easily removed or inspected. This is by and large an excellent group of clear and above average condition examples. Some have French colonial stamps, cancellation postal marks and the like, others were unused without any stamps or marks some have penned addresses & messages. . *** Color photos are posted to our website. . *** REFERENCE: .
