A View of the Action of the Federal Government, In Behalf of Slavery. By William Jay and printed in New York City by J.S. Taylor. 1839. 217 pp. 7.5 x 4.75. 12mo. Hardcover full cloth. Overall fair, with discoloration and scuffing to boards and spine. Losses at head and heel of spine. Front end page loose, with rear end pages removed. Ex-library remnants at front and rear. Text block itself generally bound well, with some looseness at bottom of first portion of table of contents. Assorted markings and inscriptions. General age-related toning to pages, along with periodic foxing and wear. Please see photographs and ask any questions prior to purchasing. A scarce work by American jurist William Jay (1789-1858). The son of Chief Justice John Jay, William was an ardent abolitionist who drafted the constitution of the American Anti-Slavery Society. Jay long held that the federal government was biased in favor of slave interests.
