6 x 5.5 inches. Single sheet printed with manuscript additions. Early fold lines but otherwise a good copy. Dr Williams's Library and archive of noncomformity was opened in 1729. From 1743 it operated a voluntary register of births, mainly for noncomformists living in the areas surrounding London, who wished to avoid having their children baptized in the Anglican church. These register eventually came to hold some 49,000 birth records, and are now held in the National Archives. They were discontinued when civil registration began in 1837. Numerous members of the Pierson family, many of them working as small tradesmen, lived in the village of Wrotham in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
