A propos de cet article

The Viking Press, New York, New York, U.S.A., 1947. Book Club Edition (BCE) of the first (1st) Printing of the First (1st) Edition. Even though the title pages states 1947 and the copyright page states "Published by The Viking Press in February, 1947", the Book Club Edition of the first printing differs from the first trade printing in the following respects: (1) No price on the dust jacket; (2) the text block is identical in all regards except that the copyright page states "Printed in the United States of America by the Kingsport Press, Inc." not "Printed in U.S.A. by the Haddon Craftsmen"; (3) the binding is salmon colored cloth not brick red cloth; and (4) there is a tiny deboss on the rear board, best seen with a magnifying glass, but it is there. Fine in a Very Good+ mylar-protected Dust Jacket. The Text Block is clean, soft white, tight, straight and square, with a light yellow topstain, deckled fore-edges, and no markings of any kind. The first issue Binding is full salmon colored cloth, color uniform throughout, bus design blindstamped to the front board, gilt title and author to the front board, gilt title, etc., to the spine, unmarked soft white endpapers, and all corners square and sharp. The mylar-protected Dust Jacket is bright, colors uniform throughout, with a chip at the top of the front panel at the spine and wear to the head and heel of the spine. See the photos. 312 pages. 5 5/8" x 8 1/4". This novel, set in California's Salinas Valley, features multiple narrative perspectives often with internal monologues, as people from many backgrounds find themselves at a remote crossroads and lunch counter with a broken down bus.…
