Hardcover in light olive green cloth lettered and decorated in gilt and black. Title page illustrated with a small woodcut and printed in red and black. Top edge gilt; fore edge uncut. 358 pp. + 4 pp. critical reviews. Illustrated with 200 drawings by the author. The second edition, two months after the first. Very good, some fade to the spine strip but the gilt spine lettering is still bright. Naturalist Thompson's memories of his experiences with wild animals, told in narrative chapters about each; for instance, "Lobo" (a grey wolf in New Mexico cattle countery), "Silverspot" (a crow), "Raggylug" (a cottontail rabbit). "Wully" (" a yaller dog"), "Redruff" (the Don Valley Partridge), and others. The book became a beloved, immediate best seller upon its release in October, 1898. N° de réf. du vendeur E34958
