The Will of the Late Stephen Girard, ESQ. Procured from the Office for the Probate of Wills, with a Short Biography of his Life. Printed in Philadelphia by Thomas and Robert DeSilver. 1832, 36 pp, 9.25 x 5.75 , 8vo, paper pamphlet. In overall fair condition, with original wrappers attached. Wear to edges and corners of wrappers, along with old hand signatures at the front and back. Text block remains well-bound. General age-related toning to pages, as well as foxing throughout, none of which compromises overall readability. An interesting and scarce piece, documenting the life and will of Stephen Girard (1750-1831), a French-born American philanthropist and banker who remains one of the wealthiest men in American history. His will, heavily contested by relatives, was resolved in 1844 by the Supreme Court case of Vidal, et. al. vs Girard s Executors. FORN-ABE-MSB-1221-Shelf-591-aj1114.
