The human experience is extraordinary and unique to each one of us. We interpret our experiences through our conditioning, our culture, genetics, fears, desires, religious or spiritual training and through our very souls. These moments move through our viscera as glints of light in the dark, both the sound of thunder and the quietest whispers. They cannot be captured in words, thoughts or memories. Those are only replicas, mental cut outs of what was. All of our experiences, insights, joys, sufferings, successes or failures each unfold and then disappear, each moment dying and being reborn… Some try to hold on, others try to let go. For all… they remain the silent teachers pointing us home. These are some of the things I have learned. Over the past 25 years, I have spent much of my time working with people enduring the loss of loved ones, of pets and the challenges of special education children. I’ve been with others who are dealing with incurable illnesses, those who attend to the dying and others who are dying themselves. I have met so many who have great anxiety and fears, so many unable to shed grief or deal with their day to day suffering. Their doubts and their fears overwhelm them. Many are seeking hope. Others are seeking peace. After a great many conversations with my family, friends, clients and many other wonderful people I have never met, I finally sat down and organized these passages that express my own personal journey. It is a journey that has crossed over many mountains and fallen into many valleys. These short essays and simple statements are reflections of my personal insights, each presented to me through the looking glass of my own soul. I hope that you enjoy them, read them… then discard them. For their only purpose is to point toward a direction of love and compassion, to come to see that what you seek is within… that you are love itself. À propos de l?auteur: ROBERT E. HANSEN was born in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, New York into an Irish Catholic and law enforcement family. Shortly after, he and his family moved to Long Island where he attended Cure of ‘Ars Catholic School. Later, he attended Mepham High School, excelling in football, wrestling and track. He earned a degree in Education (Elementary and Psychology) from CW Post College. Robert has studied martial arts since he was 11. At age 21 the Department of Treasury hired him to be their defensive tactics teacher. In this capacity he would soon find himself working with the Nassau County Police Department, NYPD, the FBI and the Secret Service. In 1972 he opened his first martial arts school in Baldwin NY. Some years later, his prowess was honored by Black Belt Magazine with three consecutive “National Instructor of the Year” awards. Robert studied Zen Buddhism at the New York Zendo Shobo-Ji in Manhattan and Dai Bosatsu Zendo Kongo-Ji monastery in the Catskill Mountains. In addition, he spearheaded the largest program on Long Island for children with special needs. This program ran from 1987 until he retired from it in 2005. The program helped thousands of children with multiple physical disabilities, as well as autism and cerebral palsy. Around 1993 Robert’s gift of mediumship materialized quite unexpectedly. He meditates daily, which has been a catalyst in nurturing his psychic abilities. Robert is married with four children and recently became a grandfather. He is a huge sports fan (especially hockey and football).
