A report issued by the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia in 1951 and underwritten in text by Nancy Hodges, Speaker. Nancy Hodges was known as a powerful women's rights activist and ". became the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly on February 14, 1950, the first woman in the Commonwealth to hold this position. and [in 1953] the first B.C. woman appointed to serve in the Senate of Canada." Legislative Assembly of BC website. Two bifolium, folded and glue-bound at spine by publisher , 4to size (10.5 inches tall), pp. 7, [8 - blank]. Items discussed are Grants to the Dept. of Lands and Forests / Land Settlement Board / Coal, Petroleum, and Natural Gas Control / Dyking / Surveys and Mapping / Air Survey / Water Rights, etc. ; also, an update is requested on the Commission's Report on the State and Management of the Gaols of British Columbia, including Young Offenders at Okalla Prison, a new Gaol in Haney/Mission, the need for a new Woman's Gaol, removal of the New Haven facility, a new Boy's Industrial School on Vancouver Island, fire protection at the Nelson Gaol, a new Inspector of Gaols for the West Kootenay and South Okanagan ; also, questions regarding a new Mining Inspector for Stewart, Atlin, etc. Report w. some toning, minor creases and a 1/2" closed tear at upper left corner. The report is dated Friday, April 6th, 1951, Victoria, B.C. with "Printed by Don McDiarmid, Printer to the King's Most Excellent Majesty" printed at foot of terminal text leaf.…
