A propos de cet article

A smart five-volume new edition of the works of John Wolcot, better known by his pseudonym "Peter Pindar". New edition, revised and corrected. Complete in five volumes. To which are prefixed memoirs of the author's life. With a copious index. Uniformly bound in half morocco, with marbled paper covered boards and endpapers. Raised bands. Portrait frontispiece to Volume I. Collated, complete. Comprising the works of English satirist John Wolcot, who published under the pseudonym of Peter Pindar. Including, but not limited to, 'Epistle to James Boswell', 'Ode upon Ode', 'Brother Peter to Brother Tom', 'Subjects for Painters', 'The Rights of Kings', 'Pindariana', 'Tales of the Hoy', 'Epistle to the Pope' and many more works. The first objects of Wolcot's satires were the members of the Royal Academy, followed by the King and Queen and other figures including James Boswell, James Bruce, Hannah More and Bishop Porteus. Wolcot was noted for his striking wit and humour, which often stung its subjects whilst retaining their comic effect to persons not involved. Uniformly bound in half morocco, with marbled paper covered boards and endpapers. Raised bands. Externally, smart, with rubbing to the extremities and the odd white mark to the morocco. Bookplate of one George Fenwick to the front paste downs. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean, with the occasional light spots, mostly found to the first and last few leaves. Very Good.…
