Everyone loves hearing a bird's song at the beginning of a new day. When this special little blackbird shares her music with a young African American boy, he wants to possess more than he should and more than she is willing to give. By teaching him how to truly listen, she finally touches his heart. A beautiful, simple and allegorical picture book which reaches far beyond the basic story to celebrate the precious gift of freedom and the need to respect others. This belongs in every family and library collection. Full-color illustrations; 24 pp., Picture book; All ages.
