A propos de cet article

Original lithograph by Salvatore Esposito. 75/120 edition, signed by the artist. Salvatore Esposito (1937 - Gallipoli). Lives and works in Alghero. Salvatore Esposito was born in Gallipoli, an island in the Ionian Sea. In 1960 he arrived in Milan and enrolled at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, where he attended the courses of Mauro Reggiani and where he later became a professor of artistic anatomy. After the academy he stayed in Berlin and Paris and visited North Africa, Spain, London and New York. Finally, the landing in Sardinia. Marco Valsecchi, in 1965, wrote that Salvatore Esposito's painting, with its more subtle means, imbued with light and air, evokes a reality transfigured by feeling and therefore imposes a lyrical image, disposed to elegy, with a range of cold and atmospheric colors that refers, by affinity, to the impressionistic blue of Sisley. The most distant paintings in time approach the landscape with an opening of still naturalistic perspectives; the color and formal synthesis, with expanded spots, then lead towards a "lyrical abstractionism", an iridescent chromatic screen that will become the recognizable stylistic code of the artist. Despite the numerous journeys made, an artistic truth remains in Esposito made up of Mediterranean lyricism, accumulated during his adolescence in Gallipoli. A native, irreversible truth that has strengthened from verification to verification, from pilgrimage to pilgrimage, from Giacometti's studio to that of Rauschenberg, as Guido Vergagni observed in the Schubert Monographs of Modern Art (Milan, 1971). The real journey made by Salvatore Esposito is the one in light and color. They are the ones who inspire the drawings, the rarefied lines, the very delicate tones. With the arrival in Sardinia, the never removed solar feeling of form and nature breaks out by forcefully making its way between motifs extraneous to it. Sileno Salvagnini, for the exhibition at the Galleria Kairos in Sassari in 1994, will say that "there is much more movement in the immobility of Esposito's writing than in the perceptive feasting of kinetic and conceptual". In Sassari, in 1999, the Palazzo della Provincia dedicated a large exhibition to Salvatore Esposito entitled Painting as an enchantment of the landscape, with the Mazzotta catalog.…
