Donald Bowling and his writing coauthor, Evelyn, attended UCLA after Army service, marriage and two children. She earned a B.A.,Ph.D. and a California Speech Pathology License and he pursued a Special Education Career. Upon graduation the family moved to Sacramento, Ca, where they established the Sunrise Speech and Hearing Clinic for her practice. Don started teaching and she began her work as a Speech Pathologist.
They conducted VOICE POWER workshops in the United States, wrote VOICE POWER and AFTER YOUR FIRST SIX WORDS, I KNOW YOU, after 30 years of work with accent rehabilitation, post-stroke therapy and therapy for autistic and developmentally Disabled children, she died in 1996. Donald continued his career with mentally and physically handicapped adults and children as a teacher, school principal and Administrator in the California Department of Developmental Disabilities.
Don began visiting the religious and tourist sights of Venice, Florence and Rome on vacation. He found that these cities were many times built in the 12th century and were difficult to visit because of his elderly ambulation problems. He started writing travel books for himself, older friends and the handicapped.
He spent the last 14 years writing and publishing travel guide books to allow Americans to be their own travel guides with special short-cut information for accessibility and special itineraries for easy vacations in these important cities of Europe. Don has written VENICE, EASY SIGHTSEEING, FLORENCE, EASY SIGHTSEEING and ROME, EASY SIGHTSEEING BOOKS for seniors, handicapped and season travelers who have trouble with cobblestones, going in unnecessary circles and climbing endless stairs. It has been 80 years since he discovered that his one legged Grandfather HAD A WOODPECKER IN HIS LEG and wrote the book of the same name in January 2013.
