Cherie Magnus

Cherie Magnus returned home to Los Angeles, California in 2014 after teaching tango in Buenos Aires, Argentina for eleven years. Before her South American expat adventure, Cherie worked as a dance research librarian at the Los Angeles Central Library and was a dance critic for local newspapers.

Her articles on dance, books, travel and international culture have been published in magazines, professional journals, and anthologies, including Solamente en San Miguel, and Chicken Soup for the Soul: Reboot Your Life.

Cherie was born with the mind of a writer, and the body and soul of a dancer. A finalist in the Buenos Aires Tango Championships of 2006, Cherie has been featured on several dance related podcasts, as well as two tango documentaries. She is the author of the tangocherie blog, which covers her expat life, Buenos Aires culture, and the tango. The prequel to the award-winning The Church of Tango — Arabesque: Dancing on the Edge in Los Angeles — was published December 2014.

Cherie is passionate about travel, and lived in France and Mexico, and visited many other countries, before moving with her cat to Argentina in 2003. At each crossroad in her life, she has faced the future with an open heart and determination. Her experiences resulted in three memoirs of “death, dance, destiny,” sometimes finding love along the way.

The journey hasn’t been easy. But when problem arise, she has always done her best to keep dancing…
