Barbara Kingsley Singer is a native of Leeds, England who relocated to the USA with only the clothes on her back. The airline had lost her suitcase. But optimism is hereditary in her family and she never lost her sense of humor. Breakup Cocktail, 5 Parts Laughter, 1 Part Healing and a Twist of Revenge was initially created as a serious book to help others through various stages of relationship demise, but as it grew, it changed. A sense of humor took it over. Stories of hardship and despair were suddenly transformed into tales of wit and optimism, and the lighter side of life nudged away the gloom from a usually depressing subject.
Using her past experiences and hardships to form this, her first book, the author introduces quirky characters into the tales of Breakup Cocktail, who become the victims of the events that had originally made her struggle. A little poetic license and a slight clouding of the truth stir up a laugh and soften the hardships that are the backbone of this book.
Conceived on land but completed on the morning commute, Breakup Cocktail was written on local trains, where a delay was always appreciated as it offered extra writing time. When not commuting, the author prefers to travel further afield to places such as Germany, Singapore, Panama and of course, her native England.
Educated in both England and the United States, she received her paralegal degree in New Jersey. Her published work includes diverse local press items in both countries. A member of the International Women's Writing Guild (IWWG) in New York, she lives in New Jersey with her partner and still remains close with her ex-husband's family. She is currently working on other life tales that are sure to offer the same honest truth and humor that shaped Breakup Cocktail.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Reading Entertainment," January 30, 2012, By crey
I am in the middle of completing another book and purchased this book for the Five Parts Laughter. I flipped through this book preparing to put it away until I completed the other book and started reading and laughing. The pie dish story is so visual it should be read on an empty stomach! I loved the way the writer presents each couple's case. This book is reading entertainment at its best. (It would have been helpful for me while recovering from a broken heart or relationship and although happily married, I love to read all books)
5.0 out of 5 stars "Inspiring, Relatable, a Great Laugh!"
This book is so well written and really relatable! For everyone and ANYone who has ever experienced the heartache of a breakup, and all of the complicated feelings that come along with it.. this book is great for a laugh to push you out of that slump that can sometimes feel never ending... I really loved it. Smart writing, with characters that are so real I feel like they've been pulled from my own life.. I bet others would agree. Would ABSOLUTELY recommend it to anyone looking for a good bed-side read, you will not regret it!!
5.0 out of 5 stars "Humorous and Inspirational," January 28, 2013, by DWeiner
This book made me laugh, even though I am very sad right now after my break-up. It is full of realistic relationship stories and life after the break-up, that are sadly true, but also funny. After my break-up, the most difficult thing was being alone. The stories about coming home to an empty apartment, going out alone, or dealing with difficult situations alone seemed just written for me. Losing the person who you thought was always on your side is heart-breaking. Knowing that I am not alone with this heart-break was comforting and provided me with encouragement that "this too shall pass." Other stories I could relate to were about getting over your ex and starting to date again. Each of her stories will make you laugh and inspire you with their lessons, practical advice and "twist of revenge."
Throughout the book, I felt that Ms. Singer was speaking directly to me. When I finished it, I realized that I am not alone and there is a happy life for me in the future. The Breakup Cocktail is a perfect Valentine's gift to give your friends who are recovering from a bad relationship.
